PGPD Announces Arrest in Homicide on 23rd Parkway

Prince George’s County, Maryland…The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit in a collaborative effort with the Metropolitan Police Department has arrested 34 year-old Elvin Rashid Murphy in connection with the murder of 84 year-old Lillie Capers.


On December 25, 2010 at approximately 1:29 a.m., patrol officers responded to the 4400 block of 23rd Parkway for a report of a domestic assault. When patrol officers arrived, they discovered the victim, Capers, suffering from trauma to her body. She was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead. A 26 year-old female, who was also injured, was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

Homicide Detectives quickly identified Murphy, of the 2100 block of I Street, S.E., Washington, D.C., as a suspect in this case and obtained an arrest warrant charging him with 1st Degree murder. He was located on January 6, 2011 at a residence in Washington, D.C. where he was apprehended without incident. Murphy is being charged with First Degree Murder pending extradition from the District of Columbia.
