PGPD Investigates Departmental Shooting in Temple Hills

Prince George’s County, Maryland…The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Special Investigative Response Team (SIRT) is investigating a police-involved shooting that occurred in Temple Hills, Maryland, earlier this morning.
At approximately 2:58 a.m., officers responded to Danny’s Carryout located in the 3300 block of Branch Avenue, for the report of an attempted abduction and robbery. Upon arrival, officers discovered that two male suspects had attempted to abduct a 25-year-old female as she was leaving the carryout.  She managed to break free from their grasp and run back into the business as the suspects fled the scene with the victim’s purse, cell phone, and car keys.
A description of the suspect’s vehicle, a silver Chevrolet Trailblazer, along with the tag number, was broadcasted to patrol officers.  Officers immediately located the vehicle near Old Silver Hill Road and attempted to stop the vehicle.  The SUV fled and police initiated a pursuit.  The suspect’s vehicle became disabled after striking four parked vehicles along 26th Avenue near Berkley Street.
Tarell Samuel Johnson, 19, of the 2400 block of Keating Street in Temple Hills, was quickly apprehended near the vehicle, while the driver, Edward Kirk Moore, 27, of the 2100 block of Alice Avenue in Oxon Hill, attempted to flee on foot.  A patrol officer apprehended Moore after a brief foot pursuit.  During the apprehension, the officer discharged his departmentally-issued firearm, striking Moore in his shoulder.  He was treated and released from a local hospital this morning.
The involved officer is a five-year veteran assigned to the Bureau of Patrol, District IV.  He has been placed on routine administrative leave in accordance with departmental policy.
Both suspects have been charged with robbery, attempted abduction, auto theft, theft, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and assault.  The vehicle the suspects were operating was reported stolen in Prince George’s County over the weekend.
