Detectives Investigate Homicide Along Hyattsville Trail

Prince George's County Police Department Homicide Unit detectives are working to identify and arrest the suspect(s) who killed a woman in Hyattsville. Her body was discovered Friday along the Northwest Branch Trail. The victim is 20-year-old Catherine Alvarado of Van Buren Street in Hyattsville. Preliminarily, detectives do not believe this was a random act. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest and indictment in this case. 

On January 1, 2016, at about 7:20 am, patrol officers with the Maryland-National Capital Park Police Department and the Prince George's County Police Department were called to the trail in the 6100 block of Ager Road for a welfare check. When they arrived, they found the victim suffering from trauma to the upper body. She was pronounced dead on the scene. 

Detectives are working to identify the suspect(s) and determine the motive.
